My house is much cleaner than it used to be. My methods for cleaning and keeping it clean have changed drastically. There is a ton of excellent advice from some wonderful you tubers who have created the most helpful videos. I read somewhere that people much younger than me watch “tv” almost exclusively on youtube. I myself have become a huge fan of getting information and entertainment from youtube. After finding and following some favorite you tubers, I got inspired to join in the fun and start to make videos of my own. I love it and hope that in the future that I will become skilled enough to create some videos that will help others!
The real reason that I created this blog is to practice my writing skills. I am not a terrific writer and I want to hone what little skills that I do have because I want to write a book. I don’t know if those of you who blog do it for the same reason. I am guessing that not everyone uses a blog as a practice area for writing. I am hoping that if I commit to coming up with something to write about, that perhaps it will help me get a flow going. I did not go to school for writing so I have not learned the skills necessary to write anything interesting that anyone would love to read. I want to learn to make the words flow like they do in the books that I enjoy. The book will be years in the writing and I have started it. I am hoping to be able to share my stories and if ONE person reads them, I will feel that I will have been successful in this lifetime endeavor.
Geez! I have really been ignoring my blog. I just want you to know that I think about it all of the time and then never get around to putting some words down. I have started making some youtube videos. I know, weird ..right? I just really enjoy some youtube channels and follow a few special you tubers religiously. I have found that youtube is really social and that we tubers have a lot to say to one another. It is a great way to meet people from all over the world and I truly enjoy how different and how much alike we are. What started as a quick social and filming experience had turned into a truly social interaction experiment. Hope to see you on your channel soon!
The American Dream is gone.
Stolen from the people of the United States is the dream that if they work hard, they can have what they need to survive. Those days are long gone. Lazy voters have killed our democracy. We’ve allowed corporations to monopolize though we knew that it would be to the detriment of America. We’ve forced small business to pay for our healthcare, then priced it so high that there is no way for them to compete or grow. We have cut out the possibility of the American dream. We allow our corporations to move to a country where they don’t pay taxes back into the American economy and only take from us.
We get preached to every day about how it is the fault of the immigrants. It is not. One would have to be a complete idiot to think that and yet it seems that millions suck up that notion every day and take it as gospel. Keeping American’s Christian is the only way to keep them so naive. In God we Trust, but in our fellow man we see nothing. Just another person taking our resources or breathing our air. We have become a nation of self blamers and are no longer looking up to where the money is going and asking, “why”? Why has our government forsaken us? The answer is simple. Greed has taken over and our country is now corporation driven.
In this world where “black lives matter”, no one’s life matters, anymore. So much so, that healthcare in our country has become a luxury for few. You can think to yourself “hey, I am doing ok..I am going to make it. I am going to survive. I may even prosper.” However, what come next is an illness that sets you back, takes your job, your home and your family.
The rules and laws have been so twisted in favor of major corporations that I don’t know if it is even possible to ever bring back the American Dream. How can Small American upstarts ever compete when they have to pay for an extremely over priced healthcare system that funnels money up and not down to the people that it is supposed to be working for?
I am tired. So, very tired.
When someone like Neil Simon dies it brings to light all of the things that you haven’t done in your own life. What a body of work this man has produced. The lines from his plays and screenplays have become part of the American culture and language.
As for me, he was one of the voices of my youth. One doorway into what it must be like to be an adult. How complicated the smallest of events can become and how significant the simplest of conversations can be.
He taught me that comedy can be found in any mundane moment, if you just look for the humor in the tragedy. Of course I don’t mean those things that are most tragic to us, but the tragedy that is all around us every day.
I thought of Neil Simon when I went to the Hoover Dam. The only time that I have ever been to the Hoover Dam, the electricity had failed and they could not do any tours or open the gift shop. The irony in that made me think that we were living a scene from a Neil Simon play.
“I am so together.” That is the first lie that we want ourselves and others to believe about us. I can only speak for myself when I say that I am NOT together and I struggle with wanting to be completely organized and working within the perfect plan that I have laid out carefully in the pages of my planner. Each day a checklist is carefully planned and poorly executed with little arrows pointing to the task list on the next day and then sometimes, the next and the next.
I have finally reached an age in my life where I have to let go of the feeling of failure. My plans go awry. My closet is a mess. My bag collection is in disarray and not exactly what I want it to be. My house gets a clutter pile! I ruminate on how it got there and why. I search for a plan. A new strategy is set into motion and it must work, this time. Often it does, for a while anyway. Then it is on to the next plan and then the next and maybe, just maybe in all of this finding new ways, it is actually getting done. All of the ruminating and planning are the very things that are keeping some order in my life, because “I am so together”.
